Job Offer / Employment Contract
- You must first secure a job offer from a Czech employer.
- The employer is required to prove that the position cannot be filled by a Czech or EU citizen (labor market test).
Employer Applies for Work Permit (if applicable)
- For certain categories (like non-EU citizens), the employer applies for a Work Permit at the Labour Office in the Czech Republic.
- Documents typically include:
- Employment contract or job offer letter
- Proof of qualification (education, skills, etc.)
- Passport copy
- Job description and duration
Processing Time: 30–60 days
Employee Applies for Long-Term Visa / Employee Card
Once the work permit or job confirmation is ready, the applicant must apply for one of the following:
A. Employee Card (dual permit)
Combines both work and residence authorization.
- Apply at your nearest Czech Embassy or Consulate (e.g., in India — New Delhi or Mumbai).
- Valid for up to 2 years, renewable.
- Requires:
- Valid passport
- Employment contract (minimum 15 hours/week, salary above minimum wage)
- Work permit or proof of registration
- Proof of accommodation in the Czech Republic
- Health insurance
- Criminal record certificate
- Passport photos
Processing Time: 60–90 days
B. Long-Term Visa for Employment
If the employee card is not applicable, you can apply for a long-term visa for the purpose of employment.
- Usually valid for 6 months to 1 year, extendable.
- Similar document requirements as the Employee Card.
4. Visa Decision and Collection
- Once approved, the Embassy issues the D-type visa for long-term stay (usually valid for 90 days for entry).
- You must travel to the Czech Republic within the validity period.
5. Registration Upon Arrival
Within 3 working days of arrival in the Czech Republic:
- Register your stay at the Foreign Police Department.
Within 90 days, visit the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) to:
- Submit biometric data
- Collect your Employee Card (residence permit)
6. Duration & Renewal
- Initial validity: up to 2 years
- Renewal: can be done 120 days before expiry
- Continuous employment can lead to Permanent Residency after 5 years.
